Bacteria and It's Character
Bacteria:
Bacteria
are unicellular organism, having the properties of growth and multiplication
and capacity to produce disease in man and animals. They are minute microscopic
organism having a prokaryotic cell structure. The chromosomal DNA of the bacteria
is a circle and they can replicate extra- cellular.
General character:
1.Shape: Spherical , rod , curved& bean
shaped.
2.Size: 1 µ m in diameter.
3.Habitual: Most of the bacteria are free
living few live in intra-cellular.
4.Cell
wall: Most have cell wall.
5.Motility: May motile e.g. Salmonella spp.
& non motile e.g Kebsiella spp
6.Capsule: May present, e.g.
-Streptococcus pneumonia.
-Klebsiella pneumonia
-Staphylococcus aureus
May absent e.g : Salmonella typhi
-Shigella spp
7.Spore: May present or not.
8.Flagella: May present or not.
9.They
liberate toxin and produce diseases.
10.They
can grow and multiply in artificial culture media
11.Reproduction: By binary fission.
