Morphology of Gonococcus:
Shape:
Coffee bean –shaped.
Size :
0.7 .µm in diameter
Arrange:
in pair
Flagella
: Absent.
Spore:
Absent.
Capsule
: Present.
Motility:
Non-motile.
Staining:
Gram –negative cocci.
Cultural character of Gonococcus:
- Aerobic
but initial growth is facilitated by presence of 10% CO2.
- Optimum
Ph ; 7.4 to 7.6
- Optimum
temperature: 37°C
- Growth
; Chocolate agar media-Colonies are small, moist ,grayish white ,semi
transparent.
Biochemical character:
ð They ferment glucose,
ð They areoxidase positive
ð They are catalase positive.
Pathogen city of Gonococcus :
N. gonorrhea adheres to mucosal surfaces of urethra &
other vulnerable sites. But the primary site is Urethras.
Acute urthritis

Yellow creamy pus/purulent urethral discharge
↓
During sexual intercourse, discharge goes to vagina
&cervix
↓
Cervicitis &urethritis
↓
Purulent urethral &vaginal secretion
↓
Gonorrhea.
